A computer firm has confirmed it is considering plans to list on the London stock market, which could value it at around £500 million.

Cambridge-based Raspberry Pi is known for creating affordable, credit card-sized computers designed to enhance coding skills among children.

The company stated it might pursue an initial public offering (IPO) on the main market of the London Stock Exchange.

If this happens, it could boost London's struggling stock market, which has been affected by several UK-listed firms being bought out or moving abroad. Raspberry Pi was founded by computer scientist Eben Upton in 2008, and its first product was released in 2012.

Since then, it has sold over 60 million of its single-board computers. University of Cambridge graduate Mr. Upton said, "Raspberry Pi enthusiasts will see the next phase of our development offer unprecedented opportunities for creativity and innovation.

"Our commitment to low-cost computing, a key aspect of what makes Raspberry Pi special, remains unchanged.

"In an increasingly connected world, the demand for Raspberry Pi's high-performance, low-cost computing platforms continues to grow."

"We have the technology roadmap to play a more significant role, and we are excited to start the next stage of our growth."

The group is a part of the Raspberry Pi Foundation, a UK charity established when the company was founded in 2008.

The foundation has received about $50 million (£39.7 million) in dividends since 2013, which have been used to support its global educational mission, the group said.

Mr. Upton stated: "For the Raspberry Pi Foundation, a patient and supportive shareholder, this IPO offers a chance to enhance their excellent work in helping young people realize their potential through computing.

"We greatly appreciate their support on our journey so far and are thrilled that the Foundation will continue to be a major shareholder."

Raspberry Pi reported revenues of $265.8 million (£211.1 million) in 2023, with operating profits of $37.5 million (£29.8 million).

The firm said that, upon listing, it expects to receive the London Stock Exchange's Green Economy Mark.
